Located on Higuera Street in San Luis Obispo, this simple pub is rumored to have a ghost residing in its basement. Although most of the clientele knows nothing of the specter below them, several of the staff acknowledges its existence.

In the basement, close to the street area, a small door sits in the middle of the back wall. Beyond it is a dirt area barely high enough for people to crawl into. This access area is used to access several utilities in the nearby building and street.

Back in the early 1900s it is rumored that someone was murdered and buried in that dirt area. The staff occasionally calls him Freddy after Nightmare on Elm Street, but as far as anyone can tell, if you leave him alone, he leaves you alone. Some of the staff have reported that "Freddy" likes the door to the dirt access area kept open and in the past he has repeatedly propped it open after employees have shut it. He has also reportedly played pranks on some employees, blowing on their ears, etc. One employee was carrying a beer keg up the stairs when he lost his balance. He reached out and grabbed the railing on the stairs and to his dismay it came loose causing him to start falling. Suddenly two hands were on his back and they pushed him up and steady. Another employee without prior knowledge of this incident has also reported a similar incident when he stumbled carrying stock up the stairs.

More recently, one of the women bartenders has stated that she believes the ghost in the basement to be a "she" instead of a "he". However, after an incident in the basement, she refuses to say any more nor will she venture downstairs. Lastly other employees have reported seeing a moving shadow down there.

So although a bit mischievous, and a bit territorial, it seems that if "Freddy" does exist, he (or she) is somewhat benevolent as well.

The Frog and Peach had an earthquake retro-fit and remodel a few years back. The basement was left mostly untouched. Although it is still very creepy down there when alone, there have been less ghost stories since the remodel. The Frog and Peach is located across the street from Bubblegum Alley.
